WARNING:
The program you are about to see is ALL IN THE FAMILY. It seeks to throw a humorous spotlight on our frailties, prejudices and concerns. By making them a source of laughter, we hope to show, in a mature fashion, just how absurd they are.
With these words, CBS introduced All In The Family, and revolutionized American television forever!
At the heart of the groundbreaking series was Archie Bunker. Archie was the foreman of a loading dock and married to his wife, Edith, who he affectionately refered to as "the dingbat", as well as a daughter, Gloria, his "little goil". Archie's problem was that he was dealing with a world that was constantly changing around him. This was the reason for all his bigoted views, which really set the tone of the show. That, and his always calling his liberal son-in-law "meathead". This show dealt with MANY controversial topics over the years, such as rape, menopause, homosexuality, mental retardation, politics (in a big way) and so many more. In 1979, the show was renamed Archie Bunker's Place. |
